The Shop

– Where it all started: The original Lone Star Guitars workshop

Handbuilt in Holland

Lone Star Guitars builds high-end guitars right in the heart of The Netherlands (Europe). All instruments are handbuilt with the highest attention to detail. At this time, all builds are one-off customs.

Lone Star Guitars was founded in 2015 by William van Houtert.

I must have been about 16 years old when I first set foot in the world of lutherie. With the idea of building a guitar in mind, I traveled by bicycle, train, bus and by foot to the nearest dealer in exotic woods (note that in Holland you’re not allowed to drive until you’re 18 years old). At the end of the day I came home with some nice pieces of mahogany and padauk. With those first pieces of wood I built a superstrat-type body using hand tools only.

It wasn’t until 2009, when I moved to Arizona (USA) for school, that I made the next step in my guitar building journey. With lots (and lots) of help from two local luthiers I build what (at that time) was my dream guitar. A few months later a second build followed.

In the years that followed I focused mainly on guitar maintenance and repair, working on many different makes and models.

Then, in 2015, I decided it was time for yet another big step. That year I set up a small shop and founded Lone Star Guitars. The shop slowly grew and many builds followed. A year later the Lone Star Guitars YouTube channel was started. Now having over 5,000 subscribers (and steadily growing), the channel is becoming an important part of Lone Star Guitars.

In 2017, the construction of a larger shop started. This will allow Lone Star Guitars to continue to grow. The goal remains the same: to build the best possible guitars.
